The situation of number of commercial banks, development banks, finance companies and 'D' class micro-finance institutions are 32, 88, 77 and 23 respectively. There are other institutions that they are engaged in financial services through various means such as insurance companies, pension funds, provided funds etc. The given tables gives the Number of Banks and Financial Institutions in Nepal in Mid-April 2012.

Recently merger among banks and financial institutions has started. So Class A, B,C financial institutions could be reduced in number.
Other financial institutions are:
- Saving and Credit Cooperatives Limited -10997 (Source Department of Cooperatives)
- Mutual Funds more than 4 in number.
